1. Summary
Wi-Fi Doctor (“the app”) is a network analysis and diagnostics tool published by Cool App Helpdesk. It analyzes your own Wi-Fi network, runs diagnostics, and measures connection quality.
- Wi-Fi Doctor has no account, no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no server of ours to send anything to.
- Nothing about your networks — names, MAC addresses, signal readings, device lists — ever leaves your phone.
- Optional tools you start (speed test, public IP lookup) contact the services they are designed to test.
2. Data we collect
Nothing is collected by us. The app does not transmit personal or device data to the developer or to any third party for analytics, advertising, or profiling.
The app reads the following on your device purely to display it to you:
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Nearby Wi-Fi scan results (SSID, BSSID, signal, channel, security) | Draw the channel graph, network list, and time graph | Held in memory only |
| Current connection details (IP, gateway, DNS, lease, link rate) | Show the Overview and run diagnostics | Held in memory only |
| Interface byte counters | Show live throughput | Held in memory only |
| Local-subnet addresses and open TCP ports | Device discovery and port scan, both started by you | Held in memory only |
3. Data stored on your device
| Item | Where | Sent off device? |
|---|---|---|
| Settings (theme, units, scan interval, layout, language) | Local app storage | Never |
| Coverage-survey readings and location names you type | Local app storage | Never |
Both stores are private to the app and removed when you uninstall it. They are included in Android’s own backup only if you have device backup enabled, a Google service governed by Google’s policies.
4. Permissions used
| Permission | Reason | When asked |
|---|---|---|
NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES (Android 13+) | List nearby access points (declared neverForLocation — the app does not derive location from Wi-Fi) | When you open a scan |
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION | (a) On Android 12 and below, the platform gates Wi-Fi scan results behind it; (b) Wi-Fi RTT ranging (“measure distance”) is gated on it at every Android version | When you run a scan or measure distance |
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE | Read current Wi-Fi state and scan results | Auto-granted (normal permission) |
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE | Ask the platform for a fresh scan | Auto-granted (normal permission) |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Read link properties, DNS, and internet validation status | Auto-granted (normal permission) |
INTERNET | Speed test, public IP lookup, and the network tools you run | Auto-granted (normal permission) |
The app requests location only at the moment you run a scan or tap to measure distance, and never reads, stores, or transmits your location.
5. Network activity and third parties
Wi-Fi Doctor makes outbound requests only for features you explicitly start:
- Speed test — transfers throwaway bytes to and from Cloudflare’s public measurement endpoint (
speed.cloudflare.com). No identifying payload is sent. - Public IP lookup — asks
ipinfo.io(falling back toipify.org) what your public address is. Runs only when you tap Look up. - Ping, traceroute, DNS, port scan, Wake-on-LAN — send packets to the host you enter, and nowhere else.
If you never open the speed test or public IP tool, the app makes no internet requests at all. The app contains no advertising, no analytics, and no crash-reporting SDKs.
6. Children’s privacy
The app is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Data retention and deletion
Readings are held in memory and discarded when the app is closed. Settings and coverage-survey readings remain on your device until you clear the app’s storage in Android Settings → Apps → Wi-Fi Doctor → Storage → Clear storage or uninstall the app.
8. Security
App data is held in the app’s private storage, protected by Android’s built-in application sandboxing. The app is distributed through the Google Play Store, which verifies the developer signing key on every update.
9. Changes to this policy
If any material aspect of how the app handles data ever changes, this page will be updated and the “last updated” date above will be bumped. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
