Simple PDF Viewer · last updated

1. Summary

Simple PDF Viewer (“the app”) is an offline PDF reader published by Cool App Helpdesk.

2. Data we collect

None. The developer does not collect personal data, telemetry, identifiers, device information, IP addresses, advertising IDs, or usage analytics. There are no user accounts and the developer operates no servers that the app communicates with.

3. Data stored on your device

ItemWhereSent off device?
List of PDF files you have opened (path, name, last-opened time)App-private Room databaseNever
Rendered page thumbnails (cache)App-private cacheNever
App preferences (theme, last viewed page)App-private DataStoreNever

The PDF files themselves are stored wherever you put them on your device; the app only reads them.

4. Permissions used

PermissionReason
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 10 and earlier)Open PDF files stored in shared storage on older Android versions. Not requested on Android 11+, which uses the Storage Access Framework instead.
MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGEBrowse PDF files across your device’s shared storage. You explicitly grant this permission in system settings; the app cannot enable it on its own.

The app does not request INTERNET, location, contacts, microphone, camera, phone state, or any other sensitive permission.

5. Network activity and third parties

The app does not request the INTERNET permission, so the operating system prevents it from making any network connection. PDF parsing is performed locally using the open-source PdfBox-Android library. The app contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, no crash-reporting SDKs, and no social or attribution SDKs.

6. Children’s privacy

The app is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children — and, as noted above, no information is collected from anyone.

7. Data retention and deletion

The recent-files list, thumbnail cache, and preferences remain on your device until you clear them inside the app, clear the app’s storage in Android Settings → Apps → Simple PDF Viewer → Storage, or uninstall the app. The app does not delete the PDF files themselves.

8. Security

The app holds no personal data and makes no network requests, so the privacy attack surface is essentially zero. App data is held in the app’s private storage, protected by Android’s built-in application sandboxing. The app is distributed through the Google Play Store, which verifies the developer signing key on every update.

9. Changes to this policy

If any material aspect of how the app handles data ever changes, this page will be updated and the “last updated” date above will be bumped. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
