PDF Reader & Editor · last updated
1. Summary
PDF Reader & Editor (“the app”) is a PDF reader and toolbox published by Cool App Helpdesk. It opens, reads, and provides a wide set of PDF tools (merge, split, compress, convert, protect, redact, sign, and more).
- All PDF files are processed entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
- The app contains non-intrusive advertising via Google AdMob (currently test units).
- The app does not collect personal data beyond the advertising ID collected by AdMob.
2. Data we collect
The app itself does not collect personal data. However, the Google AdMob SDK integrated in the app may collect certain information:
| Data | Purpose | Collected by |
|---|---|---|
| Advertising ID | Serve personalized ads | Google AdMob |
| Device identifiers | Fraud prevention, analytics | Google AdMob |
| IP address | Approximate location for ad targeting | Google AdMob |
The developer (Cool App Helpdesk) does not have access to this data. It is managed solely by Google.
3. Data stored on your device
All PDF files and app data remain exclusively on your device. Nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly share a file through Android’s system share sheet.
| Item | Where | Sent off device? |
|---|---|---|
| PDF files (opened, merged, split, compressed, etc.) | Local app cache and files directories | Never |
| Favorites and recent files | Local Room database | Never |
| App settings (theme, language, dark mode) | Local DataStore | Never |
| Signatures (drawn by user) | Local cache | Never |
| Redacted PDFs | Local cache | Only if you share |
4. Permissions used
| Permission | Reason | When asked |
|---|---|---|
MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 11+)READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 9-10) | Auto-discover PDF files on your device via MediaStore | First time you open the Library |
INTERNET + ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Load advertisements via Google AdMob | Auto-granted (normal permission) |
AD_ID | Google AdMob requires the advertising ID for ad serving | Auto-granted (normal permission) |
You can revoke the file access permission at any time in Android Settings → Apps → PDF Reader & Editor → Permissions. The app also supports opening PDFs via SAF (Storage Access Framework) with no permission required.
5. Network activity and third parties
PDF Reader & Editor is primarily an offline application. All PDF processing happens on-device.
The app integrates Google AdMob for non-intrusive advertising. AdMob may collect device information, advertising IDs, and IP addresses to serve ads. This data is managed by Google and is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
The app contains no analytics SDKs, no crash-reporting SDKs, and no social or attribution SDKs. All other third-party libraries (PdfBox, androidx.pdf, Coil, Hilt, Room) operate entirely on-device and do not transmit data.
When you share a PDF via the system share sheet, the app passes a local file URI to the app you choose. The developer does not see what you share.
6. Children’s privacy
The app is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Data retention and deletion
All data you create in PDF Reader & Editor remains on your device until you delete it inside the app, clear the app’s storage in Android Settings → Apps → PDF Reader & Editor → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app.
Generated PDFs, merged files, and exported files can be deleted manually through your device’s file manager.
8. Security
App data is held in the app’s private storage, protected by Android’s built-in application sandboxing. The Room database is stored in the app’s private directory and is not accessible to other apps. The app is distributed through the Google Play Store, which verifies the developer signing key on every update.
9. Changes to this policy
If any material aspect of how the app handles data ever changes, this page will be updated and the “last updated” date above will be bumped. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
